The holiday break is long and eventually you are going to get tired of watching the same Christmas movies, eating the same treats, and sleeping all day. With the cold weather outside and cozy vibes inside, there is no better activity than holiday cozy gaming, play some games by yourself or with family and friends. Here’s my list of some fun, relaxing games perfect for holiday cozy gaming during your break.
1. Stardew Valley
This one is a classic. This game is basically the entryway to holiday cozy gaming. The plot of this game is that you are working a draining corporate job in the city and you have just inherited your grandfather’s farm in Stardew Valley. You decide to move to the farm and start living your best farm life planting and harvesting, mining, and fishing. This is a very budget friendly game and you can play it on your Switch.
Price: $16.99

2. Unpacking
This game is my personal favourite for holiday cozy gaming. I am a very casual gamer and even the “coziest”, “simplest” games tend to stress me out. I decided to give Unpacking a chance and it was amazing. It was truly relaxing and fun to play. The game is exactly what it sounds like – you unpack your way through the different stages of the protagonist’s life beginning with the childhood bedroom, moving on to the college dorm, first apartment, home, and so on. My only gripe is that the game was too short and I kept wanting more. The graphics are so cool and since the story begins from the 90s, it feels very nostalgic and sweet. You can play this on your Switch or PC.
PS – this game is on sale right now- HALF OFF!
Price: Sale – $13.29 CAD , regular: $26.99 CAD

3. Sims Freeplay
Controversial opinion – I enjoyed Sims freeplay more than the regular Sims. And it’s free! You can play this on your phones, tablets, or iPads, making it very accessible. I am a Sims girl through and through. There are many different careers to explore, different interesting quests, and beautiful homes. They are constantly adding new storylines and side quests which keeps things interesting. You will notice a pattern in this list, I am a huge fan of life simulation games for holiday cozy gaming.
Price: Free! (as long as you own a smartphone or tablet)

4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
This is a cozy gamer fan-favourite. Create your personal island paradise as you interact with the cutest animal characters. Playing this game is a community experience, given the game’s immense popularity. This game is on the pricier side but is perfect for holiday cozy gaming as it’s very good quality and visually stunning and relaxing.
Price: $79.99 CAD

5. Cozy Grove
This game is on every cozy-gamer’s favourites list for holiday cozy gaming. This game is on my list to try out this holiday season. Another life simulation game (no surprise here), you will take on the role of a ‘Spirit Scout” wandering the haunted island and interacting with spirits and helping them come to terms with the afterlife and bringing colour back into the island. The graphics look stunning with gorgeous landscapes and cute characters. The music is very soothing as well. This is another budget friendly Switch game to add to your list.
Price: $16.99 CAD

6. Lemon Cake
This game is super cute for holiday cozy gaming and if you also find baking relaxing like me, this game is going to be ultra-cozy for you. The plot of this game is that you are a baker who will be working towards restoring a tattered bakery and move on to bake delicious looking pastries. You are also able to make your little bakery a cat cafe to keep customers entertained and live out your cafe dreams virtually!
PS – this game is on sale right now (half off!)
Price: $18.99 CAD

7. Wytchwood
This is for the witchy, goth-loving fans looking for holiday cozy gaming. This has been described as “a crafting adventure game set in an expressive land of gothic fables and fairytales. As the mysterious old witch of the woods, you will explore a strange countryside, collect magical ingredients, brew sorcerous enchantments, and pass your twisted judgement upon a capricious cast of characters and creatures” – Whitethorn Games. The storybook art style of the game is very pretty and comforting and I am proud to say this game was developed in Toronto! So I have to support my local talent. This game can be played on your Switch or on PC.
PS – this game is also on sale right now!
Price: $12.99 CAD
